Jessica’s Story

In July of 2016, I found a lump in my right breast.  I was about 28 weeks pregnant with our second son but convinced myself that my body was prepping for milk production and the lump might just be a clogged milk duct.  So I waited to say anything to my midwife until my regularly scheduled appointment a few weeks later.

At 32 weeks pregnant, I would find out that the lump was actually 5 separate tumors and was officially diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer, BRCA positive. I was induced at 35 weeks, ended up with an emergency cesarian, and began IV chemo two weeks later.  I had a double mastectomy with no reconstruction in March of 2017 and 35 rounds of radiation that summer.

In the fall of 2017, I had a total hysterectomy and then began 8 months of an oral chemo.  My entire story has been documented in the previous posts and I continue to document my life going forward as I navigate this ‘new normal’…

Mama’s Got This: The Blog began as a way to keep my family and friends updated throughout my diagnosis adventure and has evolved into my personal – yet public journal, in hopes that my story may help you feel a little less alone, a little more empowered, and a lot more loved- diagnosis or not.
